Performance Art Research by Niña Yhared
The Map of my Skin is part of the new series of performance art Feminine Migrations, Ph.D. research in Visual Arts at Faculty of Arts and Design from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México,performed by the Mexican artist Niña Yhared.
The Map of my Skin, Feminine Migrations, draws new possibilities of maps that are defined by a network of relationships in the women´s history. This performance and documentary research highlights the conceptions of open boundaries and changing spaces, in the imaginary of physical borders.
Niña Yhared already performed this doctoral series in different countries, doing interviews with women artists in different contexts, and languages. She has traveled through different cultures and experiences, allowing her body to be the transit though Mexico, North America, Europe, and Asia. In this context she is mapping the geographical and physical migration in a global network, collaborating with performance artists and collectives from diverse nationalities and cultures.
Niña Yhared is working in the performance The Map of my Skin, as a part of her Woman Blog Series, which contains almost 92 different performances.
Niña Yhared is a performance artist and researcher based in Mexico City, whose work has been recognized nationally and internationally. She is a specialist in “Action Art”, as portrayed in her “performance” gallery “The House of the Girl”.
In 2015 she presented the new series The Map of my Skin invited by the international group Non Grata from Estonia at the Nomadic and European Festival Diverse Universe 2015, in the Baltic Countries, Bulgaria and Greece. In 2014 she presented the new series Transhumance Skin with Non Grata at the 15th Open International Performance Art Festival and the Yuan Art Museum in Beijing, China. She also participated in theDiverse Universe, Nordic Performance Spring! Festival, with Non Grata, along with performing at the Month of Performance Art-Berlin, 2014, the Artopus Festival in Vaasa and Pietarsaari, Reaktio Festival in Jyväskylä, Finland, the Hausmania in Oslo, Stiftelsen Gallery 3 14 in Bergen, Norway, and in multiple performance art festivals in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Estonia.
In 2013 she presented Migrant Skin at several festivals: Performia 1, Zones Contemporary Art Fair, the International Performance Art Festival in Miami, the MEXTRANYC! Grace Space in Brooklyn, and at the Gray Exhibitions Space, in Kingston, New York. She also performed, The Skin Tales after an invitation by the Panoply Performance Laboratory, New York, USA and at the Latitude Festival 32º N / 55º S, as a part of the Month of Performance Art-Berlin (MPA-B). Finally, she performed The History of my Skin at Brooklyn International Performance Art Festival, BIPAF in NEXUSURNEXUS program in New York.
Niña Yhared has acted in over 150 performances in México, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Argentina. She earned her BA in Visual Arts at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving “La Esmeralda”, at the Mexican Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. She holds a Master’s Degree (MFA) in Visual Arts at Faculty of Arts and Design from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. She is currently completing her PhD in Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
